A Message from the CEO, Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson, CEO of LSI

There is no denying that times are difficult in Iowa and in our communities. The economic downturn and the disasters of 2008 have created an environment the likes of which has not been seen for decades. Lutheran Services in Iowa feels the effects of all of these situations, but it is during times like these that we are needed most. Now is our time to shine.

As more and more children and families fall into vulnerable situations due to poverty and other extreme challenges, LSI will be called to do even more to assist them as they seek ways to improve their lives. We are called to keep families together, to keep children safe, to encourage independence, to find resources for recovery and to bring the light of hope to all we empower. This is our call and we are ready for and built for this challenge.

LSI continues to move forward approaching these unprecedented trials with confidence, but we know we cannot accomplish our mission of service to all alone. We rely on the support of compassionate and generous individuals, churches and businesses and your support is needed now more than ever. It is only together that we can create positive life changes for tens of thousands of Iowans.

The Together We Shine matching gift campaign is an opportunity to make an even greater difference in the lives of children, families and individuals - our neighbors. This campaign is a testament to how together we can create stronger families and better communities. Together we can bring light to the darkest times in people's lives.

By taking advantage of this important campaign you become part of the light our services bring to people's lives. You allow LSI to say "bring it on" as we face these times along side the people we partner with who have known a life of abuse, the struggles of being a single mom, the fear of being homeless at 18, the violence of persecution in their homeland and the challenges of living with a disability. Thank you in advance for your support that guides us on this journey of healing for so many Iowans.
